What to Do When Your Life Didn’t Turn Out the Way You Expected

There have been times in my life when I felt as if there must be more to life than what I have now. Shouldn’t I be happier? Shouldn’t I have more money? Shouldn’t I be able to love my life?

Every time I’ve ever felt that way, I felt stuck. I felt stuck in a life that no longer felt joyful. That no longer felt like it was meant for me.

Maybe you feel that way too. Maybe you feel as if life sucks. I want you to know that you’re not alone. I have been there many times in my life. And every time I couldn’t see a way out – at least not right away.

One time it took me four years before I finally made a move to get myself out of a bad situation. I hung on too long because it was what I knew at the time. Yes, it had to do with my job. I couldn’t see a way out of my job because I’d had it for so long that I felt I wasn’t qualified to do anything else. I always had to start at the bottom in that industry so the last thing I wanted to do after clawing my way up the corporate ladder was to start all over again. And because there was no way I was going to stay in that industry, it meant I’d have to learn something new.

The time finally came when I could no longer take it. I’d had enough. So I did something I swore I’d never do – go to work full time in my husband’s company. I had always used the excuse that I was concerned about what it would do to our marriage, but the truth is, I was afraid of change.

You might be afraid of change too. It always amazes me the number of people that stay in a situation they know isn’t right for them, but they stay because it’s familiar – it’s what they know. I know – I’m a pro at that. Every time I knew I had to make a change I stayed far too long. Whether it was my career or a relationship that I knew had to end, I kept putting it off. Because stepping into the unknown was scary.

How Do You Take the First Step to Make a Change in Your Life?

The first thing you need to do is admit that something needs to change. Until you admit it you will keep making excuses as to why your life is so miserable and that there is no way out of your situation.

And I understand that some situations are extremely difficult. In this case, you’ve probably admitted a long time ago that you need to get out, but perhaps as in the case of abuse, you are afraid for your safety or the safety of your children. In extreme cases like this, you simply can’t do it alone. You know you need help from someone who can help keep you safe.

For those of you who know something needs to change but you just can’t figure out what to do, keep reading. I will share some tips for figuring this out.

How to Make Incremental Change in Your Life

You know you need to make a change in your life but you don’t know where to begin. First, know that you don’t have to make a major change all at once. Do it in stages. Most change affects the people in your life so you’ll want to consider exactly how this change will affect them.

Also, you may need to consider if you’re ready to start making changes now, or if it makes more sense to wait until you have more information about everything you’ll need to do. For instance, if you’re considering a career change, will you need to receive training before you can do the job you want to do? Or start the business you want to start? If you’ve never been in business before, you’ll need to do a lot of research and planning.

What about a relationship change? If it’s a marriage you need to end and there are children involved, it will take more time and planning than if you are ready to move out of your boyfriend’s house.

What other type of change might you want to make in your life? How about where you live? A friend of mine became an empty nester and felt overwhelmed with the maintenance of her house because she was a single mom. But she didn’t know what to do because she wanted to live a more nomadic lifestyle so she could travel for a good part of the year. Yet she still wanted a home base in her home town. So she laid out a plan to sell her house and finally decided to rent instead of buying a condo or another home. That way she could just shut the door and leave on her travel adventures without needing to have someone watch over her house.

How to Take the First Step

Sometimes the first step is the scariest step to take. It somehow makes it real. When we went to put our first business up for sale, we backed out. We had a meeting with a business broker to sign the papers to put our business on the market. We parked the car, but we couldn’t go into the building. We chickened out after having made the decision to sell our business! But then we went back to our life and were reminded of why we wanted to sell. So a couple weeks later we did it. We took that first step toward selling our business.

The first step may be scary, but it’s just a step. It’s going to get you one step closer to where you want to be. Once you take that first step, then you just have to take one more, and then one more.

Usually the steps get easier because you suddenly feel as if you’re gaining momentum. But be prepared for challenges and obstacles along the way. The way I’ve learned to look at obstacles is this – when you finally reach your goal you will realize just how strong you are as a person.

How do you know what step to take? Follow your intuition. Your intuition is going to guide you on this journey. But you may feel as if you don’t have much intuition. When you feel that way you aren’t paying attention. Your intuition is always giving you messages. They may come in the form of synchronicities, dreams, a gut feeling or a deep knowing. Start thinking about how you tend to receive messages from your intuition. Have you written off synchronicities as coincidences in the past? Those are not coincidences, they are messages. How about your gut feelings? Most people know that these gut feelings should be listened to. See if you can remember a time you listened to a gut feeling. How did it turn out?

Curiosity is another big sign that your intuition is trying to get your attention. When you are curious about something, lean into it. It doesn’t mean you have to take action right away, just do some exploring. Do some research. If you feel a sense of excitement as you do your research, it’s a sign this is something you’re meant to do. If not, then it’s ok to move on. But don’t ignore that initial spark of interest.

Meditation is the number one way to clear your mind so you can receive messages from your intuition and Spirit Guides. If you want to make major change in your life, you need to follow your intuition and the guidance you receive. It’s not always going to feel comfortable though. You’re not making a change right now because you’re stuck in your comfort zone. So your Guides are going to start pushing you to take action. And that action will push you outside your comfort zone. Don’t worry though, they do it in a loving way that also takes into consideration everything you have going on in your life and the people involved.

Even though you know you need to make a change, you’ll still hesitate like I’ve done in the past. But if you don’t take action, your Guides will start to push. Yes, Spirit Guides can get pushy because they want to see you succeed and they want to see you happy. So don’t keep ignoring the signs because it’s an indication that your life is not in alignment with your purpose. And your Spirit Guides are always guiding you toward your purpose.

What if You Don’t Know How to Interpret the Signs?

That’s where I come in. I can connect directly to your Spirit Guides and channel messages from them. They will be very clear about the next steps you should take. As long as you keep following their guidance, you will slowly start aligning your life.

Once you start taking the steps to align your life, you’ll notice an excitement building within you. Your life will start to flow and you’ll start getting excited about the changes you are making. You’ll want to keep the momentum going though, so keep taking action and keep following their guidance. And remember, they know what other things are going on in your life so if something needs to be put on hold for a time then that’s what you’ll do. So don’t worry that you won’t have time to get everything done. You will. I’ve been through this process with my guides and I had to make a complete life change that involved many people – both family and employees. I’ve been there and I understand.

Here are your options for working with me. You can start with one Higher Guidance Life Coaching session, or you can buy a package of 3 sessions. After that, we can continue working together  with my Align Your Live Coaching Program. I have a 6-month option and a 12-month option.

My hope for you is that you are able to get your life into alignment. You can either do it on your own by following your intuition, or you can partner with me and your Spirit Guides for clarity and specific channeled messages that will keep you moving forward.
